LOL I’m digging up some old photos in my friendster account and I found this. Our trial shoot for Clannad cosplay.

Oh I miss cosplay. I miss the OLD cosplay community. Cosplay community these days spells b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t.

Just looking at our cosplay photos made me realize that cosplaying is worth it given the love for the character and the accuracy of the costume. Actually, I’m starting to lose hope again… this is bad, two months ago I felt that I’ll definitely be back in the cosplay scene, but now I have this doubt and disinterest. 

I think looking at these photos will help me to be back on my feet again. I still have pending cosplay plans, I don’t want it to be left behind in the development hell. Dusting and forgotten.

Just look how happy my face is. HAHAHA. This is Jin Joson, (check out her Deviant art account and behold, witness pure awesomeness here: http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com) my cosplay idol… I was really happy to be able to have a pic with her. Ljhsjdafiydgvfiervbhieuvbhjsvbhiuegviusbdhvkj!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is very very very nice… I was actually very nervous to approach her thinking that it’ll be awkward ‘coz she used to know me… I mean, by name and face at least, I’m afraid I might come us a totally “feeling-close-omg-bff-foreverzzzzz” to her, since I can’t hold my emotions sometimes when I’m very happy, thank God I kept my composure when I ask her for a pic. 

And guess what? She remembers me! Actually she didn’t recognize me at first (probably because I’m wearing this huge contact making me look like an ulzzang wannabe, I dunno, it’s my first time to wear circle lens that huge, I usually wear contacts that is normal in size) but she asked for our names, and when I told her that I’m Rayshi (rae-shi in DA) she instantly remembers me! OMG! She said she didn’t recognize me, but it’s ok, at least she really knows me! YAAAYYY! I’m so happy. And earlier today she posted in my DA wall saying that it is nice to see me. I AM SO HAPPY. Wait, did I tell you guys that I’m happy? :))

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

It’s been a year since I last cosplayed… I left the Philippine cosplay community with much distaste last year because it doesn’t appeal to me anymore, it turned to be a place where most wannabes and airhead swarm around to seek attention, yes, I’m talking about those who do cosplay for fame not for passion. I thought I’ll never cosplay again… I never thought I’ll miss it. But then, I was wrong, I cannot entirely leave it. I miss my cosplay friends and the activities we do whenever we plan something, related or not to cosplay. I never expect to have this so much fun in a convention again. I mean, is this for real? Yeah, so much have change in the community, before, when I enter a convention it is most likely to be a place where reunion between cosplayers who KNOWS each other in real life takes place. We know each other, the community is so small back then, but now, I hardly recognize everyone, and I noticed that there are so many bystanders and lots of fashion parade which is not related to cosplaying that is going on… but some of them claim it to be cosplay! I mean… come’on guys. But nevertheless I have no choice but to embrace these changes. I have to get used to it, I guess? It’s part of a community cycle, maybe. I dunno if I’ll actively attend every conventions there is again… but one thing is for sure… IT’LL GONNA RAIN AWESOME COSPLAY PHOTOSHOOTS FROM ME AND MY FRIENDS.

Definition of Terms:

1. Curious Congoers - Refers to people at the first stage of fandom. Curiosity. These people come from all walks of life.

2. Jejemon Iskwater Hordes - These refers to people who found the fandom through mainstream events and local media. They have a bandwagon mentality and appalling behavior that bastardizes everything it touches.

3. Fans - Refers to any fan who has a specific niche; anime, manga, gaming, toku, sentai, mecha, etc. Their devotion is casual or fleeting.

4. Capitalists - People who see business opportunities out of the hobby and capitalize on it.

5. Weeaboo - A corrupted form of fan/otaku that is insecure, spouts inappropriate Japanese phrases and is just plain retarded. They are socially awkward creatures.They are usually made up of rabid fangirls and wannabe heroes. However, they can still be reformed.

6. Perverts - Self-explanatory. A very clever creature that can be ANYONE.

7. Entrepreneurs - Opportunists that found a love for the hobby and make use of their business skills to service their fellow otaku/fans.

8. Alodia Tards - A cult of self-proclaimed protectors and worshipers of the so-called deity, Alodia. They are an advanced form of iskwaters, capable of decent English at times, yet still retarded. They believe no other cosplayer would surpass Alodia and insult the “ugly”, despite being ugly themselves.

9. Pervographers - A corrupted photographer who let his perviness get the best of him and only shoots pictures of women. Disguised as a normal photographer, it preys upon cute girls. His cousin, the “Pedographer” targets underage girls.

10. Photographers - People with cameras who want to take pictures of cosplayers as a hobby and to improve their photography skills.

11. Conmen/Scammers - A corrupted form of Entrepreneurs that scam unsuspecting otaku (even jejemon iskwaters) out of their money with pirated goods and fake online shops.

12. Cosplayers - Usually born out of otaku who want to portray their character, or people who want to dress up just to look sexy/cool.They may not necessarily be fans of any genre.

13. Social Climbers - A corrupted form of a cosplayer that well… social climbs. They keep making connections with new cosplayers to gain “more friends”. This is a cousin of the Attention Whore.

14. Attention Whores - A corrupted form of a cosplayer that goes to cons whenever he/she has the chance and will usually not take any form of criticism as a means to improve themselves. They can still be reformed, given the right group of people.

15. No Idea Who They’re Cosplaying - These “cosplayers” only dressed up just to look cool/sexy and have no idea how to portray their character. This is also a cousin of the Attention Whore.

16. Genuinely Into The Hobby - These people are genuinely interested in their respective niche and simply enjoy what they do as a hobby.

17. Community Cancer - The whole collective group of creatures that made the local cosplay scene appalling today.

18. “Enlightened” Otaku - Groups of otaku that have achieved maturity and passion in their respective niche. They are scarce in number.

19. Trolls - People who troll the community after seeing its flaws, or just out of pure mischief. They range from very enlightened individuals to very retarded douchebags.

20. Underage Jailbait - An underaged cosplayer who seems to be “asking for it”. Kid/baby cosplayers indirectly fall under this category as well with their guardians as the culprit.

21. Otaku - A fan that has taken his niche to the next level. They are more devoted than the normal fans in one way or another.
